A first-year student of Jadavpur University in Kolkata died after allegedly falling from the second-floor balcony of his hostel. The student is alleged to have been the victim of ragging. As per several sources this is not the only case that has happened but has been been continued since ages.
Apart from ragging being the major issue, other important factor of analysis is, the lack of ears that gear. We today, are lacking people who can listen to us. Various college hostels, the wardens and the anti-ragging cells who are in charge of taking care against all evils are ignoring the responsibility. Mental health is day by day turning out to be a major health hazard among the people.
As per the WHO Report, About 280 million people worldwide live with depression. Depression have certain biological as well as social factors. If hereditary depression, pregnancy caused and hormonal changes are some of the biological factors, the impact of social factors like substance abuse, family dispute , and monetary factors too remain a major threat. There is a need for some one who listens. The one if not be a solution box, atleast the living ear which will be there to listen to all the consequences and soothen the victim .
Having a shoulder to lean on to will automatically solve half of the frustration within human mind. As man is a social animal, the venting out of frustration will give him/her the positive air to breathe within.
Depression is one such a a hazard which might lead one to suicide. Post Covid, and immense gadget addiction, the rate of depression too is reaching the peak. A mental health therapist has become a must in every colleges. And also human beings today have to learn to inculcate the habit of listening, more than speaking. May then, a slight therapy a common man too can provide to their fellow mates. And may be our few minutes may save, a precious soul.
