One of the most famous Bhutanese foods is Ema Datshi. It is considered top among the traditional Bhutanese dishes. Ema Datshi is made out of Cheese and chillies and is common dish among the many items that make up Bhutan food. The dish is made with perpendicularly sliced chilly which can be either red chilly or green chilly. These chillies are then cooked with authentic Bhutanese cheese that is Datshi. A measured amount of butter is then added to the dish which gives it a delicious smell and a delicious taste.
Ingredients:
Tomato sliced lengthwise
Onion sliced lengthwise
Green capsicum sliced lengthwise
Red chilli peppers sliced lengthwise
Green chilli slit
Garlic cloves sliced
Salt
Black peppercorns
Oil
Water
Butter
Cheese grated
Preparation:
STEP 1.
In a pan add tomato sliced lengthwise, 1 onion sliced lengthwise, green capsicum sliced lengthwise, 3 to 4 red chilli peppers (or more as per taste) slice lengthwise, 4 to 5 slit green chillis, 4 to 5 cloves garlic sliced, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp black peppercorns (optional). Drizzle 1 tsp oil and add water.
STEP 2
Put the pan on high heat. Cover and boil for 10 minutes. Remove the lid and stir.
Then add 3 tbsp butter and grated cheese. Mix all the ingredients well till cheese melts and gravy thickens.
Ema datshi is thus ready. Serve hot with rice.
