Udupi: Coastal Security Police has unveiled an extensive blueprint for the potential adoption of the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme,’ an initiative initiated by the Central Government with a focused approach on the Karnataka Coast. A thorough study report outlining this proposal has been meticulously crafted and submitted to pertinent authorities. Drawing inspiration from successful endeavors in border states like Arunachal Pradesh, this programme holds the promise of tackling the issue of migration from coastal villages in Karnataka.
Amidst growing urgency, Coastal Security Police Superintendent Abdul Ahad provided insight into the strategy during an interactive session organised by Udupi Patrika Bhavana Samithi at the Press Club. The core aim of the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ is to elevate the living standards within coastal villages encompassing the state’s three coastal districts. Through strategic deployment of diverse developmental initiatives, these communities will gain empowerment, leading to a reduction in the migration trend from these regions.
Ahad expounded on the fundamental concept underpinning the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ – the reinforcement of infrastructure in seaside villages. This effort is concentrated on vital aspects such as road connectivity, access to potable water, and a reliable power supply, inclusive of harnessing solar energy. The overarching objective is to enhance the residents’ quality of life, fostering an environment where they are motivated to thrive within their villages while concurrently bolstering border security.
Collaboration emerges as a pivotal factor in establishing holistic coastal security. Ahad accentuated the seamless coordination between Coastal Security Police, the Indian Coast Guard, and the Indian Navy, all working harmoniously to ensure a safeguarded coastline. He commended the integral role played by local fishermen, whose vigilant watchfulness frequently assists security agencies in their operations. This unified endeavour greatly contributes to the effectiveness of safeguarding the coastal expanse.
Turning attention to the measures instituted to ensure robust security, Ahad underscored the unwavering commitment of Coastal Security Police and other governmental bodies. Stringent mock exercises and ongoing personnel training have fortified their vigilance against potential threats, encompassing challenges such as illegal immigration and human trafficking. The diligent contributions of all stakeholders have propelled security and vigilance along the Karnataka coast to a position of paramount importance.
The proposal for the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ stands as a proactive stride toward sustainable development and the preservation of livelihoods within coastal communities. With the potential to curb migration, enhance essential infrastructure, and fortify security, this initiative holds promising prospects for the future well-being of the Karnataka Coast.
