Udupi: In a significant milestone for the state’s Lok Adalat, a specific private insurance company has been directed to pay Rs. 90 lakhs in compensation to a plaintiff due to inadequate services. This case represents one of the most exceptional successes achieved by the Lok Adalat, a forum instrumental in resolving a wide range of cases across the state, including those pertaining to financial, criminal, and civil matters.
B. Nagaraj, President of the BAR Association of Udupi, emphasized that alternative dispute resolution methods, such as reaching compromises or amicably settling cases before resorting to litigation, present a distinctive challenge compared to the legal battles waged in traditional courts. He noted, “Both legal practitioners and litigants often perceive litigation as the easier route. Even Lord Krishna faced challenges when mediating between conflicting parties. Nevertheless, the Udupi court has embraced this challenge by organizing Lok Adalat’s to seek amicable resolutions.”
B. Nagaraj was the chief guest at the inauguration of the third Lok Adalat, held at the court premises on September 10. The event was inaugurated earlier by Principal District and Sessions Judge Shantaveer Shivappa and witnessed the presence of Sharmila S, Member Secretary of the Udupi District Legal Services Authority, alongside other esteemed dignitaries.
