Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a warning to those who throw building waste and other things anywhere in the outskirts. Unauthorized dumping of building debris and other debris shall not be allowed in BBMP jurisdiction areas, on the sides of roads connecting the city and in the outskirts. BBMP has given a strict warning that if they do, they will be fined and legal action will be taken.
BBMP has warned building owners that they will be fined Rs 10,000 for every tonne of building waste. In an order issued by the Joint Director (SWM), anonymous persons, agencies are illegally dumping building debris and other debris waste on the outskirts of the city. This creates a negative attitude towards cleanliness among the public entering the city. Also, the threat to the dignity of the city is being taken seriously, said the Joint Commissioner of Solid Waste Department of BBMP in a release.
BBMP has directed all supervisors, junior health inspectors, ward marshals, marshal supervisors of the Corporation to conduct inspections of all vehicles illegally disposing of construction and debris waste in the outskirts of the city with immediate effect. Violators will be fined as per rules. After that, the BBMP ordered to seize the vehicles and hand them over to the nearest police station for further action.
It is the responsibility of the concerned waste generators to scientifically collect and transport or dispose of buildings and debris waste. This waste should be disposed of by transporting it to treatment plants officially identified by the corporation. Unauthorized dumping of building waste anywhere, in public places, roadsides, drains, vacant land or quarries is wrong. Prohibited vide Building and Rubble Waste Management Rules-2016. It is punishable and legally an offence.
10,000 per tonne will also be imposed as per the rules for waste collection and transportation, disposers too. Also, legal action will be taken under the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
