Bengaluru: In a significant development following the final delimitation announcement of 225 wards, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bengaluru’s municipal corporation, has unveiled detailed maps of these newly delineated wards on its official website. The culmination of this process, which considered citizens’ suggestions and objections meticulously, was marked by the issuance of the final notification by the Urban Development Department (UDD) on September 25.
These released maps comprehensively cover all the wards distributed across their respective Assembly constituencies within Bengaluru. Notably, these maps not only demarcate ward boundaries but also provide essential information about key infrastructure elements, including roads, railway lines, and parks within each ward.
The impetus for this delimitation exercise stemmed from a directive issued by the Karnataka High Court, compelling the UDD to redefine ward boundaries, ultimately reducing their number from 243 to 225. The initial delineation of 243 wards, coupled with ward reservation processes, had been undertaken during the tenure of the previous BJP government. However, legal challenges and subsequent rejections by the High Court necessitated a reevaluation of these decisions, resulting in the recent delimitation efforts.
It is worth noting that the Congress in Karnataka has been actively gearing up for the upcoming BBMP elections. The party has already welcomed several former corporators into its ranks, with more leaders expected to join in the days to come.
As part of the election preparation process, the BBMP has announced that the final electoral list is expected to be published in the first week of January, setting the stage for the official announcement of the polls.
