Mangaluru: A viral video featuring a man identified as Zakir from Mangaluru has caused a stir as he openly expressed support for Hamas in the ongoing conflict with Israel. While the exact date of the video remains uncertain, Zakir’s fervent endorsement of the Palestinian group led to his arrest.
In the video, Zakir passionately urged people to offer prayers for Hamas and referred to them as ‘patriots’ in their struggle against Israel. His vocal support for the Palestinian terror organisation caught the attention of authorities.
The video captures Zakir’s impassioned plea for support and solidarity with Hamas, calling upon members of an organisation he is associated with to include dua prayers for the group’s victory in their Friday rituals.
In the brief clip, Zakir identified himself as a resident of Jumma Masjid Road, Bunder, Mangaluru. He urged collective prayers not only for Palestine but also for the “brave soldiers” of Hamas.
The video quickly went viral, prompting the Mangaluru North Police Station to file a complaint against Zakir and take him into custody.
A press release from the Mangaluru North Police Station stated, “Given the potential risk to communal harmony in the region, Sub-Inspector Vinayaka Toragal of Mangaluru North Police Station personally filed a complaint on October 14.”
The release further mentioned that Zakir, aged 58, was apprehended on the same day in Bunder and subsequently presented before the court. The Mangaluru North Police Station has filed seven cases against Zakir in relation to this matter.
This incident occurs against the backdrop of the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hamas, resulting in a tragic loss of life, with reports indicating that over 3,000 individuals have been killed in the violence. (eom)
