Mangaluru: In a tragic incident, a speeding car (KA 19 MD 5676, a white Hyundai Eon) veered off the road and onto the footpath, striking a group of girls walking there. The accident resulted in the loss of one life and left four others injured.
The victim, Roopashree (23), daughter of Gangadhar from Kaana-Bala village, tragically lost her life on the spot. Despite efforts to rush her to the hospital, she was declared ‘brought dead.’
Among the four injured girls, one is in a serious condition. Their names are Swathi (26), Hithnavi (16), Krithika (16), and Yathika (12).
The car was being driven by Kamalesh Baldev, a 57-year-old real estate businessman. After the collision, instead of stopping, the driver continued at high speed, hitting another woman and a lighting pole erected for Dasara festival purposes. Later, Baldev returned to the Mangaluru West (traffic) police station with his father, HM Baldev.
The police have initiated legal proceedings, filing cases under sections 279, 337, 338, 304(A) IPC, Sec: 184 MV Act, and Sec: 134(a) (b) R/w 187 MV Act. An investigation is currently underway.
