Bengaluru: In the aftermath of a devastating fire at the Mudpipe hookah cafe in Koramangala, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the municipal body of Bengaluru, has launched a comprehensive crackdown on similar establishments in the city. Following thorough fire safety inspections, the BBMP has issued closure notices to six rooftop venues for violations.
The BBMP’s efforts encompassed the examination of 234 business establishments in all eight city zones, resulting in 122 notices mandating necessary modifications and adherence to fire safety regulations. Simultaneously, six bars, restaurants, and hookah spots have been directed to cease operations due to serious compliance breaches.
Across the eight zones under BBMP’s jurisdiction, 67 establishments in the east zone, 22 in the west zone, 55 in Mahadevapura, and 42 in Bommanahalli underwent rigorous inspections. Consequently, three outlets in the west zone, two in the east zone, and one in Mahadevapura Zone have been ordered to close due to violations.
This BBMP action commenced with the closure of ten establishments on Sunday, followed by the issuance of closure notices to an additional five hotels on Monday for their failure to meet prescribed fire safety standards.
In total, the BBMP has dispatched 122 notices to various businesses, urging swift compliance with the safety requirements. Failure to comply may lead to eventual closures, underscoring the stringent measures being implemented to safeguard public safety.
The recent fire in Koramangala has left a significant impact on the area, raising concerns among residents and business owners. The daring escape of an employee who jumped from the burning building highlighted the severity of the situation. Though he survived, he suffered severe injuries and is currently receiving medical care.
