Bengaluru : Students from the Department of Media Studies, Kristu Jayanti College recently launched a Campaign on Body Positivity, aiming to empower individuals to love their unique selves and foster a positive relationship with their bodies. The campaign was organized as a part of academics, where the students created a fictional brand named Willow Beauty with the goal of promoting self-love and acceptance. The campaign featured an interactive talk and activities designed to encourage participants to celebrate their bodies.
The Guest speaker was Deepmala Sutar, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, with extensive experience in the clinical field. She commenced the event with an insightful discussion on body positivity, elucidating the concepts of body image, perceptual body image, and positive body image. She emphasized the importance of embracing one’s unique physical characteristics and fostering a positive relationship with one’s body.
The campaign included three engaging activities designed to promote self-love and gratitude among participants. The first activity was complimentary circle which involved participants sitting in a circle, passing a toy while giving positive compliments to each other. This exercise aimed to foster a supportive and uplifting environment, encouraging participants to appreciate and celebrate each other’s qualities. In the second activity, participants were asked to write a gratitude note to themselves, acknowledging their strengths, achievements, and positive attributes. This exercise encouraged participants to reflect on their self-worth and cultivate a sense of appreciation for themselves. The final activity focused on addressing insecurities and letting go of negative self-perceptions. Participants were instructed to write down their insecurities on a piece of paper, crumple the paper, and then throw it away. This symbolic act represented a release of self-doubt and a commitment to self-acceptance.
The campaign concluded with a powerful message from Deepmala Sutar, encouraging participants to learn to accept themselves fully and show gratitude for their bodies. The event left a lasting impact on participants, empowering them to embrace their bodies and cultivate a positive self-image.
